Bill Fenn Musical Scholarship Fundraiser
I got the camper back from the shop on Monday and on Friday morning, I headed out for the weekend. Got two new Goodyear Endurance tires at Discount Tire in Brenham first thing in the morning. Put the spare back on the back of the trailer and headed towards San Antonio for a weekend of dancing and a little camping. The bathroom pocket door was off the rail again. ๐คฆ๐ป♀️
The dances started at 2 pm each day with a supper break between them. It was nice to see the scholarship winners be able to take the stage and show off their talents. Two young girls played the fiddle and one young man played the steel guitar. So glad to see that the younger generation is learning the ropes to keep country music live.
They sold some food and we could bring in snacks. MMM! Tamales! LOTS of good dancing music and it's always great hanging out with our large extended group of dancers. I put my Fitbit to work!๐๐ป
The KOA park was nice. Sites were pretty close together, but there were large, mature Pecans and Live Oaks for a good amount of shade over most of the park. Some sites were empty so it didn't feel like sardine cans. The park backs up to the Salado Creek Greenway and it was a nice place to walk the dog. I didn't get to try the pool, but it looked very inviting. The little breakfast cafe had a nice little menu and was perfect for the mornings. The camp store had some RV supplies, necessities, snacks, souvenirs and some grocery items. I think I would stay here again.

✅ What I did: Ate at The Patio Cafรฉ in the Park. Good food, very reasonable prices.
๐ถ๐ป♀️Trails I walked: Salado Creek Greenway Trail (a portion of it). 1.6 mi
๐ What I saw: Kids at play, a few hikers and bikers on the trail
๐ฆ Wildlife I encountered: Squirrels and Blackbirds
๐ What I learned: Levelers work best on the downside of slope. Ask me how I know!
๐คฃ A laughable moment: Antics at the dances with friends
๐ฎ A surprising moment: Pancakes at The Patio Cafรฉ are HUGE!
๐ An unforeseeable moment: I didn't realize it was Pet Day on Saturday. My schedule didn't allow me to join in any of the events. (But the store has a selection of dog treats, toys and needs-like extra poop bags).
๐️ My favorite souvenir: Sticker for my Travel Journal
Outside the Park:
๐ข Where I danced: Martinez Social Club - Rocky King Band, Jody Nix, Brady Honeycutt, Coby Carter, George Dearborne. Great Honky Tonk music!
๐ฝ Where I ate:
D Willie's Smokehouse, China Grove -huge stuffed baked potatoes, large banana pudding and cobbler
El Tipico Restaurant - good Mexican food and a large menu
One more, George!!!
๐ Where I shopped: Buc-ee's in Luling (the world's largest Buc-ee's). The store is 75,000 sq ft and is very nice. The parking lot is still under construction and not set up for RVs yet. Luckily, I am rather small and found a place to pull over. There is a truck stop across the interstate with better parking and access.
๐งบ Where I stopped on the way: Guadalupe County Rest Area. Nice place to stop, clean restrooms, vending machines, large parking for big tucks and RVs, picnic tables with large covers
