Thanksgiving in Palmetto State Park

Since I had several days off for Thanksgiving, I talked my parents and my brother into taking a small trip to Palmetto State Park (after we slept off Thanksgiving dinner, of course).. Too bad my son had other plans. It was a nice trip and the weather cooperated. Cool enough to enjoy a little fire and put on a jacket. Being a small park, it was quiet and very relaxing. Daddy & my brother left early on Saturday to go home and watch the Aggies vs Texas game. Good thing i stayed and wasn't able to watch the game. ๐Ÿ˜

Notes:

‼️BEWARE of the road coming into the RV Camping loop! It’s horribly warped by the Water Tower. You will have to creep over it with the RVs and you can see several scrape marks on the asphalt. The rest of the roads were decent.

There was a little loaner reading library by the restrooms in the RV loop. Take a book, leave a book. ๐Ÿ“–

๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ Highlights of this trip๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ

๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘จ๐ŸปWho I went with: With Daddy, Mama, Brother

✅ What I did: Relaxed, cooked at the campsite, walked the trails, visited with family

๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป‍♀️Trails I walked: We hit several trails at a slow pace. Daddy is still trying to get over his vertigo. Mama joined us too.

๐Ÿ‘€ What I saw: LOTS of Palmettos, fall leaves, Water Tower by CCC, tree growing through a wagon wheel, Extinct (since 1970s) Mud Boils

๐Ÿฆ Wildlife I encountered: Deer, squirrels, Barred Owl, Orange-crowned Warbler, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Carolina Chickadee, American Crow, Carolina Wren, Ruby-crowned Kinglet (Gotta love the Merlin Bird ID app!)

๐Ÿ“š What I learned: The CCC workers took pride in their work. Many of their structures are still standing. The Water Tower works on water pressure, not electricity. The deer are not scared of humans.

๐Ÿคฃ A laughable moment: Jokes around the campfire and trying to get everyone together for pictures

๐Ÿ˜ฎ A surprising moment: Hearing the Barred Owl so close to the campsite

๐Ÿ›️ My favorite souvenir: Photos, Stamps in my books, hiking stick medallion, Christmas ornament

Outside the Park

๐Ÿฝ️Where I ate: Buc-ee’s! The world’s largest in Luling. We grabbed gas, sandwiches and a few snacks. ๐Ÿคซ Don’t tell anyone but we skipped the Beaver Nuggets this time.

๐Ÿ›’ Where I shopped: Buc-ee’s!

๐Ÿ“Œ Stops along the way: Buc-ee’s! Are you noticing a theme here?

Even the Beaver is taller than Mama! ๐Ÿคฃ
