Notes:
‼️BEWARE of the road coming into the RV Camping loop! It’s horribly warped by the Water Tower. You will have to creep over it with the RVs and you can see several scrape marks on the asphalt. The rest of the roads were decent.
There was a little loaner reading library by the restrooms in the RV loop. Take a book, leave a book. 📖
Weather ☀️ 🌬️🌑 (new moon)
Jacket weather, good for a fire
How I felt 😀 Rating ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Would I go back? Yes
💜💜💜 Highlights of this trip💜💜💜
👩🏻👨🏻Who I went with: With Daddy, Mama, Brother
✅ What I did: Relaxed, cooked at the campsite, walked the trails, visited with family
🚶🏻♀️Trails I walked: We hit several trails at a slow pace. Daddy is still trying to get over his vertigo. Mama joined us too.
- Palmetto Interpretive Trail
- San Marcos River Trail-Mossy Cup Spur-Canebrake Spur,
- Ottine Swamp Trail,
- Headquarters Trail. 4.7 miles in all.
🐦 Wildlife I encountered: Deer, squirrels, Barred Owl, Orange-crowned Warbler, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Carolina Chickadee, American Crow, Carolina Wren, Ruby-crowned Kinglet (Gotta love the Merlin Bird ID app!)
📚 What I learned: The CCC workers took pride in their work. Many of their structures are still standing. The Water Tower works on water pressure, not electricity. The deer are not scared of humans.
🤣 A laughable moment: Jokes around the campfire and trying to get everyone together for pictures
😮 A surprising moment: Hearing the Barred Owl so close to the campsite
🛍️ My favorite souvenir: Photos, Stamps in my books, hiking stick medallion, Christmas ornament
Outside the Park
🍽️Where I ate: Buc-ee’s! The world’s largest in Luling. We grabbed gas, sandwiches and a few snacks. 🤫 Don’t tell anyone but we skipped the Beaver Nuggets this time.
🛒 Where I shopped: Buc-ee’s!
📌 Stops along the way: Buc-ee’s! Are you noticing a theme here?
Even the Beaver is taller than Mama! 🤣
